Summer is approaching and EK has been busy as ever trying to keep us cool. As a result, we are getting more products in various forms.

Finally the updated ThreadRipper block is here:

EK had a threadripper block ready at launch, but the new sTR4 block improves perforamnce which was sadly lacking.

The last version of the Supremacy for Threadripper had a larger cold plate to fully cover the IHS – but the actual cold plate surface area was only marginally bigger and wasted a lot of cooling potential.  Once early tests showed is significantly behind the comptetition EK decided to step up and improve it.  Here is their latest waterblock for AMD ThreadRipper CPUs:

This time, the coldplate covers the whole silicon die area not only just with the cold-plate as before but with the cooling channels also. This means better cooling across the entirety of both dies, which will result in much better heat transfer and thus lower temperatures.

The coldplate is also made from unpolished nickel plated copper that, according to EK, enables better heat transfer and lower temperatures.  This is unusual because most manufacturer’s polish the base to a mirror finish.

The block comes in four variants:

  • EK-Supremacy sTR4 RGB – Nickel
  • EK-Supremacy sTR4 – Nickel
  • EK-Supremacy sTR4 – Acetal+Nickel
  • EK-Supremacy sTR4 – Full Nickel

Pricing and availability:

The waterblocks are available to be bought from EK’s webshop for the following price:

Name MSRP (incl. VAT)
EK-Supremacy sTR4 RGB – Nickel 99.90€
EK-Supremacy sTR4 – Nickel 89.90€
EK-Supremacy sTR4 – Acetal+Nickel 89.90€
EK-Supremacy sTR4 – Full Nickel 119.90€

Vardar EVO RGB

Based on EK’s Vardar EVO fan, Vardar EVO RGB is just a modification of it with transparent fan blades and RGB illumination.

It features 4 pin 12V connector for connection to standard RGB headers and connectors, so the compatibility is assured.

The RPM range of the RGB fan is 500-2200 RPM meaning that you can find a decent balance between noise and performance.

EK-Vardar EVO 120ER RGB (500-2200rpm) 21.90€

GTX 1070 TI waterblock

Surprisingly EK is still releasing waterblocks for Nvidia’s again GTX10XX generation. This time EK is supporting the ASUS GTX 1070 TI lineup of graphics cards in two finishes:

  • Nickel
  • Acetal+Nikel

The waterblock supports the following models:

Alphacool

Alphacool had previously moved away from custom GPU blocks instead favoring a reusable GPU core cooler that mounted to a cheaper aluminum plate which cooled VRMs and VRAM.  This meant lower prices particularly if you frequently upgraded.  The downside was that it the core cooler was really restrictive and frankly the system was pretty ugly.

Now Alphacool have decided to get back in the game with something that looks a lot nicer:
Full cover waterblocks for GPUs in a new style. This time we are getting a complete make-over. Now, there is a nickel plated copper base, which now actively cools the VRMs, RAM, as well as the GPU die. The waterblock has an acrylic window to see the coolant. Of course, the RGB lighting is present and built in. The blocks will be made for various AMD RX VEGA and GTX Titan/10 series of graphics cards. Pricing and models are TBD at the moment.
Corsair
Corsairs biggest case ever, the 1000D is available. It is a successor to the famous 900D which was also aimed for no compromise watercooling builds.  The case has many mounting points for fans, radiators and most interestingly even two systems. The target audience is geared towards streamers who use one computer for playing games and one to capture and stream.  This makes sense as the setup is for one full size ATX rig and one mini ITX rig.  In fact some will use the ITX as a home server.  However having done dual builds ourself we would heavily suggest thinking about seperating the two cases simply because it is nice to have one computer still work when the second one is going through maintenance.  Plus if you ever have a leak then you are risking twice the hardware!  The 1000D is a beast, not only large but in terms of weight.  Large steel cases are already heavy but glass panels also tack on a bunch of weight.  Then add on some watercooling and you might need two people to move the case.  If you’re still interested and planning acoordingly then head on over to the Corsair’s website for a full list of specifications.
