Swiftech have released a new CPU water block called the Apogee SKF Heirloom.
Swiftech claims it is a completely new design and somewhat boldy that it is ahead of its time. The SKF Heirloom features an entirely new cooling engine made up of 125 micron thickness slotted fins.
One of the biggest features of the block, besides the cooling engine, is the degree of customization. Aesthetics are increasingly important to users and so Swiftech lets you choose the Heirloom with five colors of the block top, eight logo colors, 6 insert colors and two mounting bracket colors in any combination.
To make the heirloom name seem fitting it also comes in pretty sweet wooden box.
While there are some performance tests provided by Swiftech compared to the last Apogee, we haven’t always been able to correlate their tests with our own so we will have to review it our self in order to confirm the data:
In terms of what to expect – Swiftech are showing 1-2C improvement over the Apogee XL2 on a 5820K. However the XL2 had a redesigned cooling engine over the XL which is the last block from Swiftech that we tested with the following results:
While the XL wasn’t a bad block, it suffered from poor mounting and never delivered the performance that it could have. Clearly the SKF has a lot of ground (2C) to make up over the XL to compete at the top and Swiftech’s data indicates that it might just do that. We certainly hope that it does!
The water block is available for pre-order on Swiftech’s web site.
