Summary
The Spatha is a fully featured 8200 CPI laser sensor mouse featuring wired and wireless connections, a charging station, fully customizable buttons including 6 thumb buttons for MOBA games. It also has a reliable and fast wireless connection, RGB lighting and socketed omron switches.
It is beautiful and the performance data backs up it’s technical claims. While it had initial teething problems and RGB oddities, once setup the wireless connection was perfect. Indeed the performance of it in wireless mode has overcome my personal prejudice against a non-wired mice. However despite this, at a personal level, I struggled to control the mouse as accurately as I’m used to because of it’s high weight.
I was very surprised in fact when the data didn’t show more to back up my personal feelings. That feeling is best described as being out of control and it is hinted at by the lumpiness of some of the high CPI swirl patterns.
It’s also hard to justify the Spatha based on the price. $160 is simply a lot to spend on a mouse. The obvious comparison here is Razer’s Naga Epic Chroma which has all the same functionality but is $30 less. But my preference would be to stick with a wireless mouse simply based on price. For half that price ($80) you could get the 16000 CPI, lighter weight, MOBA friendly, wired Razer Naga Hex V2 mouse.
So even though there is nothing “wrong” with the Spatha I feel like I have to choose emotion over the data simply because a mouse is such a personal choice. In reality I would have been disappointed spending $160 on a mouse like this and so despite the good data I simply can not give the Spatha an award. If however you are set on a MOBA wireless mouse then this might just be for you.
