Phobya G-Changer 140mm Radiator Review

Welcome to another Extreme Rigs review. This time we’ll be taking a look at the G-Changer 140 from Phobya which is the first of a series of 140mm radiator reviews that we’ll be publishing, so sign up to our Twitter feed to be notified when each a review goes live.

Historically smaller sized radiators such as a 140mm have typically been used as auxiliary radiators installed on the rear panel or floor of the case. However, with hardware ever shrinking in size, Small Form Factor (SFF) builds have seen a massive increase in popularity in recent times.

Not only has hardware size shrunk though, so has the power consumption they use, or more to the point, the heat generated by modern CPUs and GPUs is much less now than ever before. So low in fact that now a single 140mm radiator can be considered for cooling a CPU & GPU loop in a case not much bigger than a shoe box.

Today possibly the biggest market for small size radiators are users assembling custom water cooling loops in SFF cases, so we thought it was about time we published some data on a few 140mm radiators for your consideration.

The review sample of the Phobya G-Changer 140 for this review was previously test fitted into a build, but then plans changed and it was never used, so it is essential brand new even though it’s a bit scratched up and is now a few years old.

We believe that this is the 1.2 version of the G-Changer 140, and one of distinguishing features between it and the newer V2 version is the shape of the return end tank which now has a G1/4 port fitted for bleeding and/or draining.

Interestingly, the Phobya Website still has the same revision listed as we have. It has same product code of 4049469089993, and the images match what we have also.

Once again we’d like to say Thanks to Noctua for providing the NF-A14 IndustrialPPC-2000 IP67 PWM 140mm fans which are being used in the Thermal Chamber.

While the review sample was pulled from the ER collection, AquaTuning and Phobya are regular sponsors for our reviews, so a shout out and Thanks to them is in order for their continued support.

What’s in the Box?

As previously mentioned the review sample of the G-C 140 has been test fitted previously but was packed back in the original box. The front features a menacing looking character which is the Phobya “mascot” for want of a better word along with a picture of the radiator.

The back of the box is quite informative and includes a marketing blurb, some more images, a full Technical Specifications list and the Extent of Delivery. The 3 year warranty badge catches your attention, as does the Made in China Text above an over-sized bar-code.
Phobya G-C140 B&W-3Opening the box we find that the radiator was carefully packed after it was last taken out.

We have to guess and say that the original packaging material was re-used, but unfortunately there is no way we can be certain.

The white cardboard packer on the left in the above picture contains the supplied accessories.

This prevents the accessories becoming loose during transport and helps keep the fragile core from sustaining any damage. Simple yet effective. This does not mean that the user will always put all the items back, as it appears that some items are not present anymore and we have an extra bag of screws ?

Extent of delivery:

1 x G-Changer 140mm Radiator
4 x M3 x 35mm screws.
4 x M3 x 30mm screws.
4 x M3 x 5mm screws.
1 x Bleeder screw and rubber washer.
1 x 140mm Anti Vibration pad.

The following image is courtesy of Phobya as some of our unit’s accessories do not seem to match what was most likely to have been originally supplied.

It seems unusual that stop plugs are not listed or pictured as radiators are usually supplied with plugs if they have alternate ports fitted.

Onwards to technical specifications!
