EK today released a pic of their new D5 top. This is described as a visual refresh which makes sense because EK’s D5 tops were really the top performers in our D5 roundup. Hopefully none of that performance has been lost.
Clearly this is a very different style and mount to the old design and seems to be focused on using the minimum amount of space. There does not appear to be any anti vibration mounts here (though we can’t see well enough) which would be disappointing if true. There is also less flexibility with regard to alternative ports now as the old pump top had a secondary less efficient output port. However it will still be coming in an XRes version which is great news as we love to mount the pump directly below a cylinder reservoir anyway for ease of bleeding. Hopefully the XRes at least will have an anti vibration mount and if so that’s the one that you’d want to get. We’re also hoping that the X Res upgrades to a glass tube but that’s somewhat unlikely. More pics have been released showing that there is a central damper built in that isolates the pump from the mount – this is great news.
Sadly the cylinder res will not be a glass tube though and will be the same as the X3 style cylinder res’s used for the old XRes combos:
Prices are however very reasonable – the top itself is retailing for $44.
Maybe they will use the same four rubber coated screws from the old design on the bottom of the base to aid in vibration?
Check EK news and product details. Mounting clip has a rubber ring holding the pump, so vibrations are perfectly isolated.

Aesthetically it is not of my liking though.
