Thermal Performance – 4.5/5

While not the best thermal performer, the MX is very strong and it’s ability to be upgraded to the top performing block should not be underestimated.

Restriction – 4/5

Again – the MX is not the highest performer here, but we have no complaints about it’s restriction

Features – 4.5/5

TIM is included and the block supports 115X/2011 out of the box.  AMD can be supported with additional mounting brackets.  There are however no spare parts or additional inserts, although upgrade kits can be bought.  Instructions are great and the new thumbscrews that get retained to the mount are a win.

Quality – 5/5

No defects were found and the base was polished nicely.

Aesthetics – 3.5/5

This is subjective – but I strongly prefer the look of the EVO in comparison to the MX design.  The only advantage of the MX is the ability to easily make your own customized top plate.

Value – 5/5

At $55 the MX sits right between the cheaper Raystorm ($50) and the more expensive Heatkiller IV Basic ($60).  It’s therfore very competitive and more compelling than the Heatkiller if you don’t have any spare TIM lying around.

Summary – Gold Award

The Supremacy MX is a great performing block at a great price.  I can’t help but feel like EK targeted this to take out the Raystorm and it certainly does do that.  There is really nothing here to criticize given that the thermal performance can always be upgraded for a few more bucks.  The only downside is from EK’s perspective – the better performing mount of the MX may lead to some cannibalization of Supremacy EVO sales!

Where to buy: PPCS – $55, EK WB – $55

  1. Another great review. Funny thing is I just purchased the Heatkiller IV Pro from PPC’s the day before you released this review. Almost made me consider getting two of these instead. They didn’t have any in stock anyway and in the end I like the look of the Heatkiller IV Pro better. I actually purchased two of the Heatkiller IV Pro (Acrylic top):

Although it’s not one of the ones that you reviewed, it’s still the same as the Black Acetal top one and will perform just as nicely. Thanks again for the detailed and amazing reviews that you do. You’re the reason why I just purchased:

    2 x Coolgate CG-360G2 Rads
    1 x Coolgate CG-240G2 Rad
2 x Heatkiller IV Pro (Acrylic Top) CPU Waterblocks
    1 x Cablemod EVGA E-Series G2/P2 Cable Kit – Green

I’m preparing to hopefully do another Dual CPU Hachintosh build here very soon, and I’m just getting all the parts ready. On a side note you should consider doing what Jonny-Guru is doing for PSU reviews. That’s if you’re interested in doing this type of extra work as quite a bit of these companies are using your reviews and awards as standard now. That should encourage you guys to do more. Keep it up !!!
