First Look at EK’s New XE 360mm Radiator

Let’s take a first look at EK’s new XE 360mm radiator.  A big thank you to EK for giving us a pre release sample of their new XE radiator.

EK is about to expand its CoolStream range of radiators with both thicker and thinner versions being added to the hugely successful PE.

The thicker variant, named the XE is scheduled for a late May release, so expect it to become available any day now. The thinner SE is set for a late June release.

A couple of photos were leaked last week causing some speculation around the forums about the models. With the release date drawing ever closer we’re busting out some exclusive shots of the sample we received for reviewing and to give some details for you, our loyal readers.

Firstly we notice the same boxy design as used in the successful PE radiator.  These panels are removable which makes painting them super easy.

The XE measures in at 399mm x 129mm x 60mm (L x W x T) – although this doesn’t include the 5mm bump for the primary ports where it grows to 65mm thick. The shroud height is an even 6mm (comparing to the PE’s 9/8mm) leaving a 48mm core (compared to the PE’s 21.5mm).  So while it’s thick, it’s not super thick.  In the Rad Roundup – there are 6 radiators for example that are thicker than 60mm.  Also carried over from the PE are the screw in ports, while on the reverse side we see the addition of another set of ports which are this time recessed so that the radiator can be mounted flush to a case. We love extra ports for the ability to fill and drain the loop more easily and so this is good news!

The core is based around 3 layers of 14 flat tubes running in U-Flow with single louvered fins having a 15 FPI count.  For reference we measured the PE at 18 FPI so this slight drop in FPI is probably to keep the air restriction affordable given the extra thickness of the core.  Screws are the same as the PE radiator – EK’s usual 6-32 thread – 12x 30mm screws and 12x 5mm screws.  You also get three allen keys – one for the screws, one for the removable primary ports and one for the stop fittings.  Sadly there are no protection plates under the screw holes though – but if you use the supplied screws with standard fans then you shouldn’t have any issues.

The XE is currently being prepped for out rigorous set of thermal tests and we will endeavor to have a full review and thermal results available prior to release!
