Core Cooling Performance – 3.5/5
Bitspower performs near the bottom of the group. While the temperatures are very acceptable, it does not make for a compelling story either!
VRM Cooling Performance – 4.5/5
While Bitspower did not win this category the temperatures were very good.
Restriction – 5/5
Bitspower have made a very high flow design without particularly compromising on performance.
Supplied TIM – 0/5
No supplied TIM.
Mounting Hardware – 4.5/5
One type of screw was great. The mount inspired confidence, but the allen key head on the screws was small leading to a fear of stripping. The screws could also have been countersunk for a cleaner look.
Backplate – 4/5
The backplates came with all needed accessories and EK should learn from the mirror finish on the chrome version because it was beautiful. The default backplate being “short” however docks BP one point.
Aesthetics – 4.5/5
Bitspower have created a good looking if heavy block. There are room for improvements still – the short backplate, and the backplate screws for example. The block itself is great though for a full cover design – it does miss out on covering some of the PCB.
Quality – 4.5/5
Machining was great and the block arrived in mint condition. The only niggle was the yellowing of the chrome plating.
Summary – Silver Award
Bitspower have again made a compelling block that looks great. While the EK block beats it on performance, the included black backplate makes it great value if you were going to buy one anyway!
Where to buy: PPCS – $135-$140 + $30/backplate
This is why XR reviews are the best on the net, the detailed disassembly is vital and very telling. It seems Bitspower has gone the Swiftech route with this generation. Simple flat plates with some grooves milled in them … No thank you.
I saw some discussion that BP blocks are looking very EK like lately. Seems the resemblance is only skin deep.
