Here it is folks! The first image of the upcoming Mars III card from Asus. Asus has always lead the extreme high end limited edition cards with their Ares & Mars series GPUs. The question here is why is Asus making a card based off the 760 GK104 chip when Ares & Mars cards have always been based off the flagship GPU of their time? Maybe they’re using similar PCBs that were shown off when the first Mars III prototype was shown with 680/GK104s.
Detail shot of the naked PCB
The heatsinks are very similar to the Mars II heatsinks
Previously Asus has designed the following enthusiasts cards:
Asus Mars I based off 2 2GB GTX285s
Asus Mars II based off 2 1.5GB GTX580s
Asus Ares I based off 2 2GB 5870s
Asus Ares II based off 2 3GB 7970s
The supposed Asus Mars III that was based off of 2 4GB 680s, never made it to production however
What do you guys think? Is Asus just using leftover PCBs or are they trying to appeal to a smaller price point? The Asus Mars II & Asus Ares II both launched at a retail price of $1499.
