EK CoolStream XE 240 Radiator Review

Welcome to another Extreme Rigs radiator review. This time we’ll be taking a close look at the CoolStream XE 240 from EKWB which was released back in June of this year.

We reviewed the 360mm version for the Extreme Rigs Rad Round Up 2015, so if the 360mm size is more your flavor be sure to check out it’s full review after you’re finished reading this one.

We have wanted to investigate performance comparisons between radiator sizes, so in this review we’ll also compare some of the XE 240mm data versus it’s 360mm sibling as well as results from another 240mm radiator which we finished testing recently.

Firstly a big thanks to EKWB for providing the review sample of the XE 240!

What’s in the Box?

The XE 240 sample arrived in full retail packaging and features the recently updated graphics while continuing with EK’s color coded branding, which for their radiators and fans is lime green.

The band of radiator fins in a nice detail and wraps around the retail sleeve.

On the back we find some Tech details about the rad and what the package contains.

Inside the retail sleeve is a protective cardboard box containing the radiator in a bubble wrap sleeve. This packaging is about as good as you could hope for and EK have done their part in helping to ensure the end user receives the radiator in perfect condition.

Tucked away at one end is a cardboard sleeve which is taped up keeping the enclosed accessories secure during shipping and avoiding damage to the fragile core.

Extent of delivery: (As listed on EK web site)

– EK CoolStream XE series radiator /w two pre-installed G1/4 extenders
– Flat-head UNC 6-32 screws (l=30mm)
– Flat-head UNC 6-32 screws (l=5mm)
– Allen key 2,5mm
– Allen key 9mm
– Allen key 6mm

While EK state that the short screws for mounting the rad to you chassis are 5mm long, my measurements of these screws have always been closer to 6mm.

XE 240 screw length

The 3 x Allen Keys included each have a specific purpose:

2.5mm – fan/chassis screws.
6mm – stop plugs on the alternate ports.
9mm – G 1/4 Extenders on the primary ports.

The 9mm Allen Key is an unusual size and not found in all sets, so it’s great that EK have chosen to include one with the rad. It comes in very handy, as often the port extender will undo when removing a tubing fitting.

The alternate ports are pre-fitted with stop plugs that require the 6mm allen key for removal.

Onwards to technical specifications!

  1. No reviewer out there has a summary of dual 280mm radiators!

You seem to be the only reviewer (great job BTW) who has some statistical data on the EK-CoolStream CE 280mm

Have been searching for comparative data against the nexXxos UT60 280mm.

    Hopefully something turns up soon!
